Telangana Archaeology on International Arena India’s youngest state Telangana can be truly described as treasure trove of archaeology. The state boasts of invaluable heritage, timeless monuments and many more. The Deccan region of India, encompassing the state of Telangana has been renowned since ages for its heritage legacy and the imprint of several dynasties and their architectural marvels.
The Department of Archaeology and Museums is the premier organization for archaeological research and protection of the cultural heritage of Telangana state. Maintenance of ancient monuments, archaeological sites and remains of historical importance is the major activity of the department. The Archaeological Department in Hyderabad was first established in the year 1914 during the time of H.E.H. Nawab Sir Mir Osman Ali Khan, the VIIth Nizam. On the advice of the Director General of Archaeology in India, Prof. Ghulam Yazdani of the Bengal Educational Services was appointed as its first Director. Mr. Yazdani arrived in Hyderabad on April 26, 1914. Mr. Yazdani's proposals were fully approved by the Government vide Proceedings No.19/7 MISC.OF 27th June 1914 of His Highness, the Nizam's Government in the Judicial, Police and General Departments (Archaeological).
The Department of Archaeology & Museums, Government of Telangana, India is hosting “Rediscovering Telangana”, an international Seminar on the Recent Trends in Archaeology, Art History and Conservation on January 16 & 17, 2017. The Marri Chenna Reddy HRD Institute in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad is the venue for this prestigious seminar.
The seminar is being attended by eminent historians, authors and other important panellists from India and the world. There are special lectures, panel discussions and book release events planned as part of this seminar, which has been planned to showcase Telangana Archaeology on an international arena, and is aimed at truly ‘Rediscovering Telangana’, in the modern age.
